Westlake will close KC-area distribution center

Westlake Ace Hardware Inc. will close its distribution center in Lenexa, Kan., next year to improve efficiency, but the company will retain its headquarters in that same building, a move that will affect approximately 20 jobs.

CEO Tom Knox said the 85-store hardware chain plans to keep the company’s headquarters staff in a portion of the building and sublease the distribution space. There has been little discussion of eventually moving the headquarters staff — which numbers about 90 — but the company could be open to a move if an opportunity presented itself, he said. The Westlake chain, founded in 1905, is exploring opportunities to open new stores or acquire stores, Knox said.
