SunEdison considering $2 billion Chinese solar plant

SunEdison is in talks with a Chinese company about investing up to $2 billion to build a polysilicon factory in China. The plant would enable SunEdison, a Maryland Heights-based solar company, to produce the commodity used in solar panels for “the lowest cost” in the industry, according to Ahmad Chatila, the company’s president.

SunEdison, which has been the top performing U.S. solar company this year, also inked a deal with asset management firm JIC Capital to invest a total of about $220 million over three years building about 1 gigawatt of solar power plants in China.
