Sprint Corp. reports that its reduction of 452 jobs from its Overland Park, Kan., headquarters includes the elimination of 67 managers, 10 directors and four vice presidents, and that it anticipates “additional reduction activity in the next few weeks.” The overall layoffs announced Friday aim to accommodate cost cuts for subscribers’ service. Most of the management positions are in some part tied to Sprint’s IT, portfolio management and network operations.
Sprint, which laid off 477 area employees in March, has cut 929 area jobs in 2014, resulting in a total local head count of about 6,500 people. The reduction will release a torrent of tech talent in the area. Among those technical positions affected, the largest cuts were to Sprint’s application development operations. The carrier let go at least 96 employees related to app development, 10 of whom were managers. The company also laid off about 65 IT and network engineers.
