Stamps.com acquires St. Louis’ ShipWorks for $22 million

Stamps.com has purchased ShipWorks, a St. Louis-based company that makes shipping software, for $22 million. Stamps.com, which is based in El Segundo, Calif., plans to operate ShipWorks as an independent subsidiary.

Saint Louis University graduates Wes Clayton and Brian Nottingham founded ShipWorks in 2000.

CEO Ken McBride says this is a strategic investment in e-commerce for Stamps.com. Shipping is an important sector of the mailing business, McBride said, so this is a source of rapid growth for his company.
