St. Louis area hospitals ramp up Ebola preparedness plans

Some health systems operating in Missouri have identified go-to hospitals for Ebola patients within their own networks. SSM Health Care CEO Bill Thompson sent out an internal memo describing, in detail, SSM’s preparedness plan. In each of its five regions, SSM has identified “Level 1” and “Level 2” facilities — everything from doctors’ offices to actual hospitals.

Most SSM operations have been labeled as Level 1 facilities, according to the memo. Employees at these Level 2 hospitals will receive more intensive training, the memo states.

SSM operates 19 hospitals in four states; 10 of the hospitals are in Missouri. Chesterfield-based Mercy Health is taking a similar approach.
