Dillons Stores will exit the Springfield market, selling its four grocery stores in the area to Springfield-based grocer Price Cutter, the companies announced Tuesday.
Price Cutter, which has 48 stores in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma, is said to be assessing the four stores with an eye toward developing new store concepts, but no final decisions have been made about the stores.
Hutchinson, Kan.-based Dillons is a division of the Kroger Company, one of the nation’s largest grocery chains. A spokeswoman for Dillons called the decision to exit Springfield “a regrettable but necessary step.”
She said pharmacies at all four stores will close immediately, but that the company expects all Springfield associates to maintain employment through January.
