In what its owners are labeling a “return” rather than a “reopening,” JJ’s Restaurant will open to the public Wednesday in a new spot just west of Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza. The new restaurant stands less than a block from JJ’s old location, where a natural gas explosion in February 2013 leveled the 27-year-old restaurant and killed server Megan Cramer.

The restaurant’s owners — brothers Jimmy and David Frantze — have worked to recreate some elements of the old JJ’s in the in the lobby of the new 10-story Polsinelli Building, and much of the menu will be the same. But a new executive chef will also usher in some changes as JJ’s begins a new era.
