Missouri consumers to see higher prices on insurance exchange

Many Missouri health insurance consumers will encounter increased options on HealthCare.gov when open enrollment begins Saturday, but that competition isn’t necessarily driving down prices.

For instance, the monthly premium for the lowest-cost bronze plan — a plan that requires the highest level of customer cost-sharing — rose by about 12 percent, to $163 from $146 for a 27-year-old nonsmoker in St. Louis County.

The state’s health insurance advocates acknowledge the rise in prices but say the exchange this year still offers consumers affordable coverage options.
