Ready for Orange Wednesday? Area retailers try new holiday promos

The start of the holiday shopping craze can’t be contained by Black Friday — or even Cyber Monday — anymore.

With a variety of special events and promotions on tap, malls and stores in the state are beginning Black Friday even earlier this year. Some retailers are starting sales on Thanksgiving, and one Kansas City-area shopping center, Zona Rosa, is kicking off promotions the day before Thanksgiving, hoping Orange Wednesday will become a new tradition.

Without “must have” toys or apparel to drive business, some malls are turning to pop-up offerings, relying on unique, local goods and limited-time deals to bring customers through the doors.
