The Affordable Care Act’s second enrollment period may not draw the fanfare of its first, but Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City officials say the expect enrollment to go up this year. The insurance provider has increased staffing at its call center from 27 to 80 in preparation for the enrollment period, which begins Saturday and runs through Feb. 15.
“Last year, there was this excitement — something new was coming and everyone wanted to see what it was,” Vice President of Sales Ron Rowe said. “There’s not that right now, but I think there’s going to be a bigger uptake in enrollment than there was last year.”
Blue Cross and Blue Shield will offer plans on Missouri and Kansas exchanges. The average ACA product is about $55o a month, but with 85 percent of consumers receiving federal tax subsidies the average out-of-pocket cost is about $50 a month.
