The “Oklahoma Joe’s” signs that adorn the exterior of some of the Kansas City area’s most popular barbecue restaurants will vanish this week — among the last vestiges of a bygone era in Kansas City barbecue.
The founders of Oklahoma Joe’s Bar-B-Que have for years run separate restaurant operations in Kansas and Oklahoma. In August, they announced that the three Kansas City-area locations would shift to a new name name — Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que.
Some of the company’s products, including sauces and T-shirts, already bare the new name and logo. On Monday, the company started changing the outdoor signs at its three locations. The switch was expected to be complete today.
