Monsanto signs pact to protect client data

A dozen companies and farmers organizations, including Monsanto Co., signed onto a list of data protection principles last week.

Since it acquired Climate Corp. last year, Monsanto has rushed to sell “precision agriculture” services to farmers. These services use climate, soil and other kinds of data to help increase farmer production.

The company and its rivals have now agreed to inform farmers about their data rights and to be transparent in their collection and use of data.
