Ferguson business owners plead for peace

Owners of businesses along a main thoroughfare in Ferguson called for peace in the St. Louis suburb as they waited for a St. Louis County grand jury’s decision on the fatal shooting of unarmed teenager Michael Brown by Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson.

Speaking at a Friday press conference, owners of businesses located on West Florissant Avenue said their sales had fallen by as much as 75 percent since the unrest in August.

Plywood still covers many storefronts along the street, and an attorney for several of the area’s business owners said some businesses are closed for good and others are “at the breaking point.”
