LaunchCode: 90 percent of apprentices land full-time jobs

LaunchCode, a St. Louis-based organization that teaches aspiring developers to code by placing them in apprenticeships with local companies, says it had a 90 percent success rate turning apprenticeships into full-time jobs in its first year. Those jobs pay a median salary of $50,000, the organization says.

Since its launch in the fall of 2013, LaunchCode has placed 117 people in apprenticeships, which pay $15 per hour and typically last three months.

In its second year, the organization started by Square co-founder and St. Louis native Jim McKelvey, plans to expand to other cities, beginning with Miami.
