St. Louis small businesses try Plaid Friday as shopping alternative

A group of small, independent businesses in the St. Louis area is urging shoppers to spend time and money away from the big box retailers when they do their holiday shopping.

Go Local St. Louis is a group of 80-90 local businesses that have formed a sort of mutual support network, officially launching in September after having an Internet presence in 2013.

The group will join the nationwide Plaid Friday movement, asking consumers to spend holiday dollars with small businesses. While many small businesses close on Black Friday, Plaid Friday encourages local businesses to remain open this year to offer an alternative to larger retailers.
