Employees face limited options on small business health insurance marketplace

Employees of small businesses in Missouri will have limited options if their employers choose to use the new online health marketplace.

Missouri was supposed to offer an “employee choice” feature, designed to let workers pick their own health plans within a designated cost-sharing tier. But employees in the state won’t have that option for 2015 because only one insurer — Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield in Missouri — is offering plans on the Small Business Health Options, or SHOP, marketplace.

Fourteen states with marketplaces run by the federal government chose to allow employee choice this year. Of those states, only Arkansas has a similar lack of SHOP options.
