Sprint targets Verizon, AT&T customers with new pricing promotion

Sprint Corp., the No. 3 U.S. wireless carrier, is trying an aggressive new tactic to gain ground on the top two carriers, Verizon Communications Inc. and AT&T Inc., with its “cut your bill in half ” promotion.

Under the limited-time offer, introduced Tuesday by Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure, the Overland Park, Kan.-based telecom company will offer as much as $350 to customers for switching to Sprint from AT&T or Verizon. Sprint will then match customers with one of its service plans similar to their old plan, but for half the price.

The promotion is the latest move by Claure, who took over as chief executive in August, to help Sprint recover from falling subscriber numbers.
