For the first time ever, St. Louis will be among the host cities for the U.S. Olympic team trials in 2016. The city will be home to men’s gymnastics competition in June 2016, while San Jose, Calif. will host the women’s event the following month. St. Louis will also hold the women’s competition to determine the finalists for the trials in San Jose.
St. Louis previously hosted the 2000 and 2012 national championships in gymnastics, which St. Louis Sports Commission President Frank Viverito said was an important foundation for the city’s selection for the Olympic trials. Viverito also said the event is expected to bring millions of dollars and national TV exposure to the city.
