Nixon calls summit to examine state’s cattle industry

Pointing to the large number of cattle raised in Missouri but processed elsewhere, Gov. Jay Nixon is asking for stakeholders in the state’s cattle industry to devise a solution to a problem he says is costing the state “well over $1 billion of value.”

To that end, Nixon has called for a summit Jan. 5 at the University of Missouri, where participants will discuss strategies for optimizing Missouri’s cattle industry and spurring economic development in rural areas.

Nixon said part of the summit’s goal is to create opportunities for young people to stay in Missouri and work in agriculture.
