Kansas City’s KMBZ radio to split into two separate stations

Kansas City’s KMBZ radio, which currently broadcasts on 980 AM and 98.1 FM, will split into two stations with unique programming starting Jan. 5.

Most of KMBZ’s current content will stay on 98.1 FM, with that station touting an “all live and local” lineup. The AM station will consist primarily of nationally syndicated shows, with the exception of Darla Joyce’s local show, which previously also aired on 98.1.

The station at 98.1 FM was an adult-contemporary music station for years, but owner Entercom changed that in 2011, when it started simulcasting 980 AM on the FM dial.
