Some KC law firms concerned about recruitment of national firms to area

Russ Welsh, the head of Polsinelli, one of the Kansas City area’s largest law firms, is displeased with the Kansas City Area Development Council’s recent recruitment of a pair of a large national firms — and some 375 jobs — to Kansas City.

Welsh, who’s also a former chairman of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, expressed concern that the arrival of administrative offices for the Littler Mendelson and Sedgwick law firms will drive up costs for local firms and force the relocation of some of their jobs.

Welsh said he is withholding Polsinelli’s 2015 developmental council dues in protest, and he has asked leaders of other Kansas City firms to meet and discuss the issue. But representatives of some of the area’s other firms disagree with Welsh’s stance.
