World Wide Technology co-founder Steward honored for business growth, charity

Some people snickered at the oversized name of World Wide Technology when David Steward and Jim Kavanaugh started the computer equipment and services firm in Maryland Heights in 1990. But what began as a team of five with a 4,000-square-foot facility and ambitious moniker has since grown into that name.

Steward, who was recently recognized as St. Louis’ Citizen of the Year for 2014, now serves as chairman of a company that employs 3,500 people, including 1,500 to 1,700 in the St. Louis area.

World Wide Technology has become a household name in the world of IT systems integration, working with clients like ExxonMobil and the U.S. Department of Defense.
