KC’s McCownGordon Construction becomes employee-owned company

The owners of McCownGordon Construction have sold 100 percent of the company to set up an employee ownership plan for the 15-year-old Kansas City firm.

Pat McCown, Brett Gordon and Ramin Cherafat, the company’s owners, sold the business to a trust inside the employee benefit plan. McCownGordon employees will receive shares of the company over time, with retiring employees selling shares back to the trust as a retirement benefit.

McCown, Gordon and Ramin don’t have plans to retire, a company spokeswoman said, but they wanted to resolve any questions about the company’s future ownership.
