HCA Midwest Health planning new KC-area cancer center

HCA Midwest Health, Kansas City’s largest health system, announced plans to open a new cancer center near Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence.

HCA Midwest Health bought a building near Centerpoint in 2012 and plans to spend $20 million reconstructing the 17,000-square-foot structure by the summer of 2016.

The new Sarah Cannon Cancer Center at Centerpoint will be the first hospital within the HCA Midwest system to provide a variety of services, from diagnosis to treatment and early-phase clinical trials, under one roof.

The hospital will be staffed with three board-certified medical oncologists with cancer-treatment expertise, radiation oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, surgeons, physicists, radiation specialists, nurses and therapists.
