Tesla asks to intervene in Missouri dealers lawsuit

Tesla Motors petitioned a judge to allow it to intervene in a lawsuit by the Missouri Auto Dealers Association against the state’s Department of Revenue. Though Tesla is not a party in the lawsuit, the suit alleges the Department of Revenue and its director, Nia Ray, violated the law by granting the electric car manufacturer a dealers license to sell vehicles in the state.

MADA’s stance is that, according to Missouri law, carmakers must work with dealerships that hold franchise agreements with the manufacturers. Tesla’s dealership model, which uses direct-to-customer storefronts, does not fit that category, the association argues. A hearing in the suit is scheduled for March 10.
