Perceptive Software parent Lexmark buys another software firm

Lexmark International, the printer maker that owns Lenexa, Kan.-based Perceptive Software, announced it will acquire another software developer, Kofax Ltd., for about $1 billion.

Once the deal is finalized, Perceptive and Irvine, Calif.-based Kofax will be combined into a larger unit of Lexmark, which is based in Lexington, Ky. Lexmark said the deal would double the size of its enterprise software business, giving the unit about $700 million in annual revenue.

Perceptive president and CEO Scott Coons said it was too early to say how the deal would affect staffing for his company, which has about 750 employees in the Kansas City area.
