Boeing unit named to NASA project on ‘aircraft of the future’

NASA has established a public-private partnership with a small group of companies, including Boeing’s St. Louis-based Research & Technology unit, to develop knowledge about composite materials that could be used “in aircraft of the future.”

The goal for the project is to reduce product development and certification timelines by 30 percent for composites used in aeronautics, NASA said.

General Electric Aviation, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co., and a team from United Technologies Corp. are also part of the consortium. Financial details of the project were not disclosed.
