North Kansas City officials and the North Kansas City Hospital board of trustees are locked in a battle over the possible sale of the hospital.
According to the Kansas City Star, last month city officials approved a plan to review the possible sale of the hospital. They said the city could sell the building because they owned it.
The hospital’s board of trustees, after a legal review, refutes the city’s claim. The board says the city does not have the authority to sell the hospital. The board filed a lawsuit on Thursday to stop the sale.
“Let me be clear today,” Michael Montgomery, the board’s chairman, said at a news conference. “The board of trustees of North Kansas City Hospital intends to take whatever legal steps are necessary to preserve what the voters of North Kansas City established a half a century ago.”
