Panera eliminating 150 artificial ingredients from menu

Panera Bread Co. will cut more than 150 artificial ingredients from its menu, including high fructose corn syrup and artificial trans fats. The Sunset Hills-based restaurant chain announced the move Monday and set the goal of phasing out the ingredients by 2016.

Panera, known in the St. Louis area as St. Louis Bread Co., said it is the first national restaurant chain to share its list of unacceptable ingredients.

Monday’s move follows an announcement late last month by Chipotle Mexican Grill, another major player in the fast-casual dining industry, that it would eliminate genetically-modified organisms¬†from its menu.
