Grandview plans $300 million development around sports village

Plans are in the works for a $300 million mixed-use development in suburban Kansas City that would include residential property, hotels and a youth sports village as it anchor tenant.

Grandview mayor Leonard Jones said a development group has acquired the site of the proposed project, along Missouri Highway 150 in Grandview, from a group that had been developing a 272-acre community in the area.

Some 200 acres of that project went undeveloped and were purchased by a partnership that includes Deron Cherry, a former Kansas City Chiefs player and longtime United Beverage Co. president.

The project is expected to include single-family homes, apartments, retail property and two or three hotels. The centerpiece will be a sports village, which is expected to include 15 to 20 soccer fields and a field house for other sports.

More details about the project are expected during a public announcement Friday afternoon.
