Two barbecue joints from St. Louis and another from the Kansas City area rank among the top 10 in the country in a new list compiled by travel review website TripAdvisor.
Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que, the Kansas City, Kan., restaurant that recently changed its name from Oklahoma Joe’s, checks in at No. 2 on the list. Joe’s earns praise from TripAdvisor for “fall-off-the-bone meat” that will leave customers “craving more.”
Bogart’s Smokehouse of St. Louis comes next, at No. 3. Bogart’s gets high marks for its “deliciously inventive spins on classic smokehouse fare,” like apricot brûléed ribs and pastrami smoked over apple and cherrywood.
Pappy’s Smokehouse, a St. Louis establishment, rounds out the local contingent on the list, at No. 10.
Missouri sits third in TripAdvisor’s ranking of top states for barbecue, following behind top-ranked Tennessee and No. 2 Texas, and ranking just ahead of North Carolina and Georgia.
TripAdvisor generated its rankings from user reviews of restaurants. To qualify, an establishment had to have at least 100 reviews through the website. Restaurants were graded for “quantity and quality,” TripAdvisor said, with more weight given to reviews written in the past year.
