Scott Coons, who founded Perceptive Software in 1995 and helped the Lenexa, Kan.-based company grow into an industry leader in specialized business software, announced he will retire at the end of July.

The news came Thursday as Lexmark Enterprise Software completed its nearly $1 billion acquisition of Kofax Ltd. Lexmark Enterprise Software is a division of Lexington, Ky.-based Lexmark International Inc., which acquired Perceptive in 2010.

Coons, 48, will be succeeded in his role as president of Lexmark Enterprise Software by Reynolds Bish, the CEO of Kofax, which is based in Irvine, Calif.

Coons said he will assist with the transition and that Lexmark executives are “very comfortable” with the succession plan.
