Uber could receive approval to begin operating in St. Charles County before it’s allowed in neighboring St. Louis County or St. Louis.

Sagar Shah, the ride-sharing service’s general manager for the St. Louis area, is scheduled to meet with the St. Charles City Council Tuesday to seek approval for UberX to operate in the city limits. The service already has been approved in other part of St. Charles County, but it wants to roll out county-wide — ideally this summer, Shah said.

UberX has been operating on the Illinois side of the St. Louis metro area since March, but it has met opposition in St. Louis and St. Louis County. Talks are underway, though, between the San Francisco-based service and the area’s taxi cab commission.
