Dennis Muilenburg will take over July 1 as chief executive officer of Boeing Co., succeeding chief executive James McNerney. McNerney, 66, will remain chairman and retire in February, according to Boeing’s statement.
Muilenburg, 51, was named COO and president in December 2013 after running Boeing Defense, Space & Security, a Hazwelwood-based division that employs about 15,000 people in the St. Louis area.
As CEO, he will confront challenges that include setting a course for the business and navigating the global marketplace. Muilenburg started as an engineering intern at Chicago-based Boeing in 1985, and he has worked his way up from there.
