WireCo Buys Dutch Synthetic Rope Maker

KANSAS CITY – WireCo WorldGroup Inc., a Kansas City-based manufacturer of  wire products, has acquired the Dutch Koninklijke Lankhorst Euronete Group.

WireCo bought Lankhorst a producer of synthetic ropes based in the Netherlands, for $177 million, according to the Kansas City Star. The  company employs about 1,300 people worldwide and operates manufacturing facilities in Portugal, Brazil and the Netherlands.

Jose Gramaxo, the current chief executive of Lankhorst, will join WireCo as Senior Vice President of Global Synthetics.  The combined organization will collaborate to engineer, design, and produce steel wire ropes and synthetic ropes for global maritime, fishing and offshore markets.

The acquisition is WireCo’s fourth since 2005. WireCo CEO Ira Glazer said he believes all WireCo employees will benefit from the acquisition.
