Sprint’s Claure made $21.8 million in first eight months

Sprint Corp. CEO Marcelo Claure made $21.8 million in his first eight months on the job, according to a company filing.

Claure, who took over as chief executive of the Overland Park, Kan.-based telecom company last August, brought in that haul in a mix of cash, stock and other compensation between his hiring and the end of the company’s fiscal year in March.

Claure, a successful telecom entrepreneur, replaced Dan Hesse last summer after Sprint’s bid for T-Mobile US Inc. fell through. A company spokeswoman said Claure’s stock and options compensation was particularly large because they included some grants for Sprint’s 2015 fiscal year.
