Ameren planning 70-acre solar project along I-70

Ameren Missouri hopes to break ground by this fall on a new solar array along Interstate 70 in Montgomery County, between St. Louis and Columbia. Ameren filed an application this week with state regulators seeking approval for the 70-acre project, which would be the St. Louis-based utility’s second major solar project.

The project would contain some 48,000 panels and be about three times the size of Ameren’s first solar array, located in O’Fallon. Plans call for a 15-megawatt solar plant that would produce an estimated 20,655 megawatt-hours per year, enough to power roughly 1,500 households annually.
