Big St. Louis business leaders mostly mum on stadium proposal

If the leaders of big companies in the St. Louis area have strong feelings about the proposed riverfront football stadium aimed at keeping the Rams in town, many are keeping those thoughts to themselves.

Most corporate executives contacted about the matter recently by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch either declined to discuss specifics of the project or did not respond to requests for their opinions.

Express Scripts, Schnuck Markets and Burns & McDonnell were among the companies contacted that expressed general support for St. Louis and the Rams without delving into the issue of a new stadium, which is expected to cost close to $1 billion.

Longtime St. Louis public relations consultant Mack Bradley said that stance makes sense: Executives who support the stadium project may be hopeful that it will succeed without their involvement, and those who oppose it don’t want to offend stadium supporters.
