SSM Health to spend $500 million replacing SLU Hospital

SSM Health said Tuesday it will replace St. Louis University Hospital within the next five years with a $500 million investment. The announcement was made after SLU Hospital officially became a property of Creve Coeur-based SSM Health earlier Tuesday.

New facilities including a replacement hospital and an outpatient care center will be built in the vicinity of the current SLU Hospital, but details on these new facilities were not available yet.

William Thompson, president and CEO of SSM, said his organization’s acquisition of SLU Hospital would not result in significant employment changes for the 365-bed teaching hospital, which employs about 1,500 people.
