Applebee’s, the Kansas City-based restaurant chain, is moving its corporate headquarters to Glendale, Calif., where its parent company, DineEquity, is based.
The move will result in job cuts by the restaurant chain, which currently employs about 220 people at its headquarters. Between 80 and 90 employees are expected to retain their jobs in Kansas City, with another 10 to 20 percent of the headquarters staff being transferred to California.
Applebee’s moved its headquarters to Kansas City, Mo., in 2011, receiving a $12.9 million incentive package for moving across the state line from Lenexa, Kan.
Applebee’s president Steven R. Layt has resigned and will not move.
