Enbridge Inc. will begin a $23-million project to upgrade a portion of an oil pipeline that runs beneath the Mississippi River from north St. Louis to the Wood River Refinery.
The safety and security upgrade to Enbridge’s Ozark Pipeline was announced by Gov. Jay Nixon’s office, which said it should be complete by January.
The Canadian oil and gas company plans to bore a tunnel under the Mississippi River from Illinois into Missouri. Nixon’s office said most of the construction jobs will be in Missouri, where workers will weld the pipe together before pulling it through the tunnel.
