BioSTL wins grant of up to $2.5 million

BioSTL, the St. Louis organization dedicated to the life sciences industry, has received a Regional Innovation Cluster Initiative grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration worth up to $2.5 million.

The award will help BioSTL and its subsidiary, BioGenerator, provide further support to entrepreneurs in St. Louis’ bioscience cluster.

In the first year of the grant, BioSTL will receive $500,000. Four additional option years could grow that total to $2.5 million.

The money will be subcontracted through local partners, including Cortex and its Square One entrepreneurial program; TechShop, the makerspace expected to open in early 2016; ITEN for its entrepreneur-in-residence program as it relates to health care IT; St. Louis Makes through its Product Camp; and Venture Cafe, which hosts weekly networking events.
