TierPoint to acquire data center business for $575 million

TierPoint, a cloud computing and data center company based in Town and Country, is continuing its growth with the $575 million acquisition of Windstream’s data center business.

The all-cash deal for Little Rock, Ark.-based Windstream includes 14 facilities and about 179,000 square feet of data centers. The purchase gives TierPoint, which is led by Charter Communications co-founder Jerry Kent, access to five new markets: Raleigh and Charlotte, N.C.; Chicago; Little Rock, Ark.; and Nashville, Tenn.

The deal calls for a strategic partnership under which TierPoint sells data center services to Windstream’s information technology customers. The companies say that will enable Windstream to focus on its “core telecom offerings” while offering other IT services to TierPoint data center customers.
