A project to construct a rooftop bar on the Big Brothers Big Sisters building in St. Louis is finally underway after the 2008 recession delayed construction.

Financing for the project will stem from a $5 million federal tax credit. The organization previously remodeled the building, which it shares with Kranzberg Arts Center, for its offices. Becky James-Hatter, the president of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri, said her organization has raised $2.5 million in donations for the project.

The plan includes a street-level space with a bar that has room for about 40 people, as well as the rooftop addition, which will be open for the public and can be rented out for private events.
