St. Louis stadium backers pitch financing to aldermanic committee

Backers seeking the passage of a financial package for a proposed football stadium aimed at keeping the Rams in St. Louis testified before the Board of Aldermen’s Ways and Means Committee on Thursday. The package would fund the city’s portion of the $1 billion project.

The city would issue bonds and then pay a total amount equal to about $233 million, including interest, through 2051.

NFL officials have said a viable stadium plan requires financing to be in place. That said, passage of the bill wouldn’t guarantee a decision by Rams owner Stan Kroenke to keep the team in St. Louis. He’s mulling a move to Inglewood, Calif.

More meetings are scheduled for the coming weeks.
