Ann Covington, a University of Missouri System curator from Columbia, announced her resignation Thursday, citing personal reasons.

Covington highlighted a few of the reasons in her resignation letter to Gov. Jay Nixon. In the past 11 months, she had hip replacement surgery, her granddaughter underwent major heart surgery and she lost her husband, Charles McClain, a former state commissioner of higher education.

Her term was set to end in 2019. Covington was appointed to the Board of Curators in 2013.

Covington’s resignation comes less than two weeks after the resignations of University of Missouri System President Tim Wolfe and MU Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin.
