Two companies based in the St. Louis region are teaming up to bring a new alcoholic root beer to the market.

Fitz’s Bottling Co. and O’Fallon Brewery plan to bring Fitz’s Hard Root Beer to store shelves in January. The alcoholic beverage is set to compete with existing brands, such as Not Your Father’s Root Beer and Row Hard Root Beer, which have found a following in Missouri.

Fitz’s, which makes root beer and other sodas, and O’Fallon, which specializes in beer, are working to preserve a flavor that’s true to Fitz’s non-alcoholic root beer, which dates back to 1947.
