Just nine months after agreeing to acquire the only competing hospital in Farmington, BJC HealthCare has announced plans to close Mineral Area Regional Medical Center as it consolidates services.

BJC will close Mineral Area Regional Medical Center, which was recently renamed as Parkland Health Center–Weber Road, no later than Jan. 31, according to a statement released Tuesday.

In February, BJC agreed to buy Mineral Area Regional Medical Center. After the deal, the facility was operated as part of BJC’s Parkland Health Center in Farmington, about 70 miles southwest of St. Louis. BJC said in a statement that it’s currently renovating the emergency room at the Liberty Street hospital to accommodate the additional patient volume.
