The full St. Louis Board of Aldermen will consider a plan for the city to finance $150 million of a proposed $1 billion riverfront football stadium after the proposal received approval from the board’s Ways and Means Committee on Thursday.

The committee vote, in which the plan received 7-2 approval, was viewed as a critical win for backers of the stadium plan. It keeps the proposal on track to meet the NFL’s Dec. 30 deadline for St. Louis, Oakland and San Diego to submit stadium plans aimed at keeping their football teams from fleeing to Los Angeles.

The full Board of Aldermen could debate stadium funding as early as Friday, but procedural rules will require aldermen to return next week for at least one special session to hold a vote on the issue. The board may also skip debate Friday and hold it next week.
