Rawlings owner to merge with Newell Rubbermaid

Jarden Corp., the parent company of St. Louis-based Rawlings Sporting Goods Co., is merging with Newell Rubbermaid in a deal that will create a $16 billion consumer goods company.

Atlanta-based Newell Rubbermaid is acquiring Miami-based Jarden for about $13.2 billion. The combined company with be named Newell Brands with Michael Polk, CEO of Newell Rubbermaid, serving as CEO of the new company.

The transaction, which is expected to close in the second quarter of 2016, will be funded by cash on hand, debt and equity issued to Jarden shareholders.
